FAQs
Get in touch for anything not covered!
Video production should be a fun and creative process. We are a friendly team and we’ll guide you through each stage. To give you an initial idea of what to expect, we’ve put together the following FAQs:
-
Are there hidden costs?
No. We carefully agree the scope of the project and the payment terms in advance. If during your project you are seized by creativity and have wild new ideas, we can chat about how to incorporate those into your existing project and how much it will cost to add additional work.
-
How do I pay?
Simplicity and transparency are our motto. Costs are worked out and agreed upfront. Depending on the nature of the work, you might pay a deposit and then a final payment after work is completed. Payment can be via bank transfer or purchase order to our secure business account.
-
How much filming kit do you bring with you?
We pack only what we need for the job! Some smaller jobs benefit from a single cameraperson with handheld equipment and mics only - all of our equipment is of the highest professional quality. Larger jobs with a higher production value may require more cameras and more camera or sound professionals, as well as a lighting rig. We are able to be very discreet if you want to film in a busy location such as an office or retail space.
-
How many people are in the FGF production team?
Our founder, Ross Gill heads up the production team and is often on the ground directing shoots and producing final videos. Alongside him are a dedicated team of film and editing professionals. You will be introduced to the team member you will work with before they arrive for the shoot, ensuring a seamless and personal service.
-
How much input do you need from me?
This one is up to you! Some of our clients are budding directors and love a hands-on approach; storyboarding and scripting their own videos. Others need a little help to get to grips with their first video, and some are totally hands off, preferring we take care of the whole process.
-
Do you have a studio where we can film?
We believe being on-location is better than filming in a studio because the real world does a better job of telling your story. We are a mobile video production company so we can come to you or meet you at any arranged locations. We do also film in studios when requirements or conditions make this a necessity.
-
What if people aren’t comfortable in front of the camera?
Don’t worry, most people don't love being filmed! We focus on building rapport and reminding people they can do no wrong. Using gentle tips and taking our time brings the best out in everyone. Filming with Fresh Ground Films is a fun, relaxing and confidence-building experience.
-
Can you write scripts?
You’re the expert in your field so you’re the best person to write your script. But we can help. We’ll consult with you on what makes a good script and how to make a video ‘flow’. We will collaborate with you to create the most powerful narrative for the final video, and if you do need us to, we can write the script.
-
What is storyboarding?
Storyboarding is essential planning that makes sure your video flows with storytelling magic. By drawing out either basic ideas for scenes (you can write or literally draw these – even stick men will do), or going into detail with frame by frame illustrations, you can envision how your video should look, spot inconsistencies and make sure it says what you want it to.
-
What if we have only a very basic idea for a film?
All the best films start with a basic idea! We have over a decade of experience of telling different stories for different companies – so if you have an idea, but not a plan, get in touch with us to see whether we can help provide a little inspiration and turn your idea into an amazing video.
-
How long does a video shoot take?
If you are looking for a short social media video of around 1 minute featuring one person talking, set aside 1-2 hours for filming. This allows us to set up, brief our subject and do a few takes. Documentaries or multi-video campaigns could take a couple of days to a week of filming. Your timeline depends entirely on your size of your project.
-
Will you take still images or photos during the filming for us to use in marketing?
We love filming! And we are great at making captivating videos for a range of different stories and purposes. But we are not photographers. You are welcome to use stills from the videos for marketing but if you require hi-res photography, you’ll need to consider getting a specialist on board. We can recommend photographers in the South West.
-
How long does video editing take?
It depends on your project! We will agree a timeframe with you prior to ensure we all have the same deadlines in mind. We are able to provide extremely fast turnarounds for emergency projects – just get in touch to discuss.
-
Do you do animation?
Animation is an incredible specialism of its own, as such, it is a separate skill to video production. Currently we do not have an animator on board at Fresh Ground Films as we film live action footage. But we do offer graphics…
-
Do you do graphics?
Yes we do! We offer some brilliant overlays, text options and graphics that you can incorporate into your video to make it stand out. From stats and quotes to openers and transitions, just chat with us about what you’d like to do.
-
How many approval stages are there?
We use Vimeo, a world class video hosting service, to share your project with you as we create it. This allows you to see progress and make comments directly in the video, especially useful for marking frames you’d like to keep or remove from final footage. Approval stages, therefore, depend on the size of your project and how involved you want to be. We work closely with you to ensure you are DELIGHTED with your final video.
-
Do all videos include subtitles and music?
Subtitles and music are included as standard. If you require a specific piece of music this may cost more due to licensing.
